Divorce

Going through a divorce is stressful and lifechanging. You, your ex-spouse, and even your children will encounter challenges involving finances, day-to-day life, emotions and more. Add on top the rest of your life responsibilities and it can be overwhelming at times, no matter how hard you are trying to navigate this time in your life. However, it is paramount you make the right decisions, because how your divorce is conducted can affect you for years to come.

What you should know

Waiting period

Tennessee law requires a mandatory waiting period before a divorce can be finalized. For couples without minor children, this period is 60 days from the date of filing. For those with minor children, the waiting period extends to 90 days.

Dividing assets

Child Custody

Tennessee's legal system strives to keep the best interest of the children at the forefront during custody decisions. There are many potential factors that come into play during the negotiation of custody arrangements, and hearings in front of Family Law Judges can be complicated.  I can help protect parental rights.

When you go through a divorce, you will have to potentially divide your property based on your specific situation. There are many ways you can potentially harm your financial future. I can help protect your financial interests as you navigate this process.

Special considerations for military divorce

Military divorce has its own unique stressors that require a different expertise. For example, many times military families have moved to a new area, away from their supporting family, and now they are going through a family split up. One of you may be forced to leave the home, or one person may be forced to deploy or travel frequently that prevents timely court hearings. It is important that you have a lawyer who understands your military stressors and can communicate your unique needs to the court. You may also have acquired assets unique to the military, and those can require special consideration.

I have personally served in the military and have lived many places, including overseas. I have helped numerous servicemembers during stressful family issues. I personally guarantee that I will do my best to help you legally navigate these issues.
